Continuing recent successes, Odenberg, a leader in optical sorting and peeling solutions for the potato sector, has launched its latest optical sorter range, the ‘Sentinel’. It is a customer led  ‘designed for purpose’ machine to sit in a range led by the acclaimed Titan and joining an  already highly successful line up.

The Sentinel benefits the customer as a competitive, labor efficient, food safety & productivity tool. The sorter has been specifically designed to meet the needs of a customer where the functionality & power of the Titan is not required. It is the ideal efficiency, quality & cost reduction tool for  growers, packers & processors where capacity, gross defect and foreign object sort are critical. In addition to potatoes, target markets are green beans, carrot & tomatoes sorting.

No compromise has been made in the design. The Sentinel is a long life, high performance machine with proven technology to be ultra reliable with low operation and maintenance costs.  The user friendliness is continued with simple to use touchsceen for full control over the sort. Hygiene is addressed through stainless steel construction and open design for easy cleaning access.

Gentle handling of your product is assured through engineered chutes and takeaway systems which also provide the advantage of high capacity in a compact footprint.  It is available in a 2 way sort configuration (good travels forward undisturbed whilst ‘bad’ is ejected)

The name is apt considering its core function – to guard and remove unwanted gross defects and foreign objects from the product stream. It uses top mounted Color & NIR LED sensors located across the sorter width for a clean ‘in flight & off -belt’ product view. This provides high efficiency & accuracy for both product color, defect and foreign material sort.

The Sentinel is  available in 1000mm / 40” and 1500mm/60” wide infeed belt models, with 7″ touch screen, top mounted color & NIR LED vision system, intelligent finger ejection system and of course Odenberg’s renowned reliability & low ownership costs.  As a potato sorter it can handle up to 50,000kg / 110,000lbs per hour.

Odenberg’s new Peel Scanner² is a revolutionary tool to enable truly intelligent automation, control and data reporting on your peeling line. The benefits of constantly maximising yield, reducing energy consumption and instantaneous data, on product quality and potato dimensions enable managers to achieve significant production cost savings.

Yield improvements of up to 2% are achieved by continuously controlling peeling times and brush operation. The scanner analyses peeled potatoes and matches the remaining peel to the user set points. Peeler time can be increased or reduced in 0.25 second intervals using accurate proprietary control programs developed from over 25 years expertise. This intensive control reduces waste and energy consumption.

The Data collected by the Peel Scanner² pushes the productivity and efficiency of the entire process operation. It continually collects potato dimension (length & width), and quality information, which is networked to the plant control system. The plant now has accurate information at an early stage of the process on which to base production decisions and maximise bottom line contribution.

This all new peel scanner is a complete redesign on the original utilising enhanced reliability from long life LED lighting, friendlier user control, via touch screen, state of the art optics for excellent image and edge analysis and powerful data recording.
